Hello and welcome
This is our first blog post as part of what we have - rather predictably - called our ‘journal’.
While I’d love to predict and state that we’ll be posting here weekly, fortnightly or monthly and stick to it, realistically, we’ll get as many posts up as often as we can, when we have something valuable to share. We’d rather give you something decent than something regular.
For now, we just want to welcome you to the site and we hope that if you do choose to buy one or more of our packs of notebooks, you’ll enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed hauling this idea into existence and getting over the start-line. On that note, we do have some great offers in the shop for our first batch of books to celebrate our opening.
Below are the vital statistics that we feel make us unique.
Entirely made in the UK
80gsm nib-friendly paper (it’s buttery-smooth on our branded pencils too)
100% vegetable based inks
Plastic free packaging
FSC accredited (responsibly sourced paper)
Limited edition designs planned championing British artists
Being made in Britain is important to us as there’s so much today that’s being produced in vast numbers at a questionable quality and imported from all over the world - because it’s cheaper and the endless race to the bottom simply isn’t sustainable as corners need to be constantly cut to maintain the ever decreasing costs and margins. Industries have suffered over time as the cost of labour in alternative manufacturing locations has essentially made it close-to-impossible to compete - largely at the sacrifice of a workforces quality of life or fair wage, or in the quality of raw materials. However, there are still those industries where Britain has a proud heritage - identifiable by the strength of brands and skilled people who’re still working here, from fashion and design to manufacturing. Take Brompton for example. They are still making fantastic bikes in London for a global market. I have one and it’s amazing. Many world-famous brands rose to fame under British manufacture too, such as Land Rover, Purdey, Holland & Holland, Hackett, Rolls-Royce and Dunhill to name a few.
We’re a new company and small but growing outfit, looking to carve out a reputation for UK-made, fantastic quality, creative, beautiful and above all, useful products to help people in an increasingly connected world to take a step back, unplug, recharge and get analogue. Perhaps for only a few minutes a day but the benefits are vast… Not only have the benefits of handwritten notes been proven more effective than typing too… mental health benefits of journaling are wide and fascinating and the topic of our next journal post…
