Wilder X Wingback

A little while ago, I was looking for a classy, discrete, Uk-made EDC pen. EDC stands for everyday carry. This meant the pen had to be sturdy and robust for a back pocket to go with our notebooks.

Such is the way now that after a few Googles, some ads started showing up in various feeds - many of which were dull or much like any other pen but Wingback’s designs really stood out to me as unique. Their imagery was appealing and on further inspection, their kit looked lovely and their simple yet well-thought-through design really got me hooked. Their hand-stitched wallets are stunning too.

I bought a few things. Namely, their machined black set consisting of a beautiful pen, a really handy little key cache and hip flask. I have since given up drinking altogether so some suggestions on what to keep in the latter would be much appreciated!

Just by looking at them, but even more so when holding and using their products you can tell just how much effort has gone into their meticulously designed products. It’s clearly an obsession - and we love that here at Wilder.

In their own words:

Wingback stands for an alternative to mass production and disposable culture. Everything we make is designed to be a pleasure to use, to improve with age and become a cherished item passed down through generations.

Uniting the precision of modern manufacturing with the longevity of traditional handmade design, we create exceptional items in Great Britain designed for any journey.

I love their products so much, I offered to send them some of ours…

I sent Alasdair - who started Wingback - a set of books, which I now know he really enjoys and uses regularly then rather cheekily (I thought), requested a zoom meeting to see if there was any way we could work together - after all, many of our values align well.

We have since created a little design partnership and Wingback are now pairing our pocket notebooks with their delightful Winston Churchill Travel Wallet. It’ll comfortably hold a pair of notebooks, a passport, some cash and few business or credit cards. We have one and it’s fantastic - personalised too, which is a lovely touch.

We are really proud to be part of this and pleased to have found another company who’s eye for quality materials and skilled UK-based manufacturing matches our own.

"Good design is about creating a product that fulfils a function reliably, is enjoyable to use, and then slips discreetly into the background when not required. By designing from a usability perspective and considering the whole life of the product, our aim is to create iconic designs that will last as long as you do."

Check their site out. They make fantastic stuff and I highly recommend them (especially the Winston Churchill Travel Wallet - which goes so beautifully with our books).
